Altitude Diver

If you have ever thought about taking your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course, PADI Enriched Air Diver course, or PADI Rescue Diver course this video gives you an idea of what you can expect. These courses will help you achieve the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating!

Who should try this experience?

PADI dive shops offer this program either in a pool, off a beach or from a dive boat. You can try scuba close to home or while you’re on vacation at a dive destination. While not a scuba certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world. To sign up for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, you must be at least 10 years old. No prior experience with scuba diving is necessary, but you need to be in reasonable physical health.

What will you learn?

Learning to adjust your dive plan for the reduced surface pressure at altitude is an important part of the course. You’ll complete two scuba dives and learn:

  • Altitude dive planning, organization, procedures and techniques.
  • How to adjust your dive computer for altitude diving or calculate altitude dive profiles using the RDP Table or eRDPMLTM.
  • How to avoid problems and handle emergency situations, if they occur, at altitude.

Get credit! The first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your instructor about earning credit.

How can you start learning now?

Stop by your local PADI Dive Center and Resort, or find one in an area where altitude diving is possible, to enroll in the course. Also, check out the dives logged at altitude on ScubaEarth®.

What scuba gear will you use?

Beyond using basic scuba equipment, you may need a dry suit for the cool water. Your PADI Instructor may suggest additional equipment depending on the dive site features and visibility. Check with the local dive center to get advice about diving at altitude.

Next Step

Breathing underwater for the first time is something you’ll never forget, so don’t wait.

I’ve been diving and teaching at A-1 since 2007. We are like a second family, and some of my best friends have come from this group. Come for the diving, stay for the people.
